UIB Eats: Rustik Tavern

What is a tavern? Dictionary.com defines it as a “public house for travelers and others” and “a place where liquors are sold to be consumed on the premises”.   Doesn’t that sound like a comforting place to visit with friends?  Lucky for me I happen to live near a tavern, a Rustik Tavern (http://rustiktavern.com/), in the Bed Stuy/Clinton-Hill area of Brooklyn. My first trip to Rustik Tavern, or Rustik (as the locals call it), was last summer –  my first summer in Bed Stuy.  I wanted to find a place in which a few friends could enjoy cocktails and relish in conversation all while listening to good music and be surrounded by good energy.  Mission accomplished! The ambiance is just what this tavern claims to be, rustic.  The decor is shabby chic with exposed brick, generous seating, dim lighting, a fire place, and an all around chill vibe. Our group ordered a round of chilled patron silver shots then made a beeline past the DJ (oh yes, they have a live DJ in house on Saturdays) through the french doors into the courtyard.  In the courtyard were wooden benches & tables, chairs, and a fire pit that you and your friends can sit around – so dope!   Fast forward a few months to my birthday (December 20th), I decided to host a brunch for my special day.  I wanted to celebrate somewhere affordable, accommodating, and intimate, so I went back to Rustik. Although I’d been to there twice before (for cocktails & appetizers), I hadn’t sat down for their brunch.   What attracted me the most about their brunch was their menu and their “Bottomless Brunch” special.  Oh yes, you and your dining companion(s) can take in unlimited amounts of bellinis, bloody Mary’s, screwdrivers, champagne, or mimosas for two hours. I returned to Rustik yesterday to enjoy a birthday brunch for my sister.  Since we’d partied hard the previous night the only “Bottomless Brunch” that we wanted was water, and lots of it!  Our waitress obliged and ensured that my brunch companions and I were never without a full glass of water with lemon.

We ordered the Classon’s Classic, which is a very refreshing an filling salad.  You have the option to add grilled chicken or shrimp for few extra bucks, but we opted to keep it basic.  We thought it was so nice that we ordered it twice!

I wanted something very filling, so I went with the steak and eggs.  I don’t normally indulge in such filling meals, so when I do I indulge like a BAWSE! I thoroughly enjoyed the eggs (of which I added hot sauce), mixed greens, and home fries, but didn’t particularly enjoy the marinated steak.  It was decent, but I found it to be a bit “rubbery” and under seasoned.

Check out their smiles, I think its safe to say that these two enjoyed their salmon burger entrees and salad.

Making reservations was a very easy process.  I simply went to their website, clicked the “contact us” tab, and filled out the form before submitting it.  I received a quick response via e-mail and was all set. If you don’t feel like dining in/carrying out you don’t have to because they deliver daily (after 3:00 pm)! The next time you’re in the Bed Stuy/Clinton-Hill area do yourself a favor and stop by Rustik!  I promise you won’t be disappointed! Until next time friends! – PenniePenz
