And Then There Was That Time… That I had an Impromtu Photo Shoot in Bed Stuy

“Wanna bumble wit’ da bee? Bzzzzzz throw a hex on the whole family.  Dressed in all black like the omen…” All About the Benjamins, Puff Daddy ft. The Lox, Lil’ Kim, and the Notorious B.I.G

Well I wasn’t quite clad in “all black like the omen” as my shoes and lips added a welcomed pop to my monochromatic look.  I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again – I am NOT a FASHION BLOGGER, but I do tend to share my look from time to time upon request.  With that being said, this is what I wore while out and about with friends yesterday at Piquant (complete review of the restaurant  coming this week) for brunch. I love to pair inexpensive pieces with more expensive ones because its unexpected and usually a big hit.  Here’s the look:
Interested in achieving this look?  Here are the deets so you can score the pieces that I used to create this effortless look.
I receive TOO many compliments too handle each and every time I wear these fab shoes (this was my 5th time wearing these babies):
I scored these shoes on sale for $78 from (regular price $159.00)!  They’re leather with a detachable ankle cuff and mohair cheetah print detail.   Get this, there was only one pair left on the site  (AND they were my size (size 8 1/2) which means that God wanted me to have them.  That’s how I rationalize great purchases like this so just go with it okay? Haha.  The wedges are by Jeffrey Campbell and they’re called “Lancelot”.   Unfortunately they’re out of stock, but you can be added to the wishlist and be notified if and when they restock –>
Here are a few cheetah & funky print inspired alternatives:
The romper/jumpsuit was also purchased on sale for only $15 (regular price, $22.80)!  This was my first time wearing it and I absolutely loved it!  I found it to be lightweight and versatile (I chose to dress it up, but I can easily wear this again with flat sandals).  What I loved the most about this piece was that it had a tasteful peek of mid-section to flatter the not-so-perfect stomach that I have (and am currently working on).  This romper, a size M, was purchased from Forever 21 earlier this month.  Once again, it appears that this jumpsuit/romper is sold out so I posted some great alternatives for you to check out:
Mac Ruby Woo WHO? Mac Ruby Woo WHAT?  Forget everything you know about this extremely popular Mac lipstick because I did.  I wound up purchasing Sephora Always Red Cream Lip Stain  because I lost my Ruby woo a  little over a year ago.  I walked into Sephora and asked for “Ruby Woo’s cousin” and was presented with this rich color – it’s been love ever since.  Unlike Ruby Woo, Sephora Always Red is moisturizing and doesn’t cake up.  The best thing, its cheaper than the mac lipstick (Mac lipstick goes for $16 and Always Red sells for $13)!  It goes on like a high shine gloss and almost instantaneously dries into a very sophisticated and rich matte look: –>
The bag (not featured in the shots above but worn with the outfit) was thrifted over five years ago for under $150 from a shop in NYC.

Option #2 (Louis Vuitton)

Option #3 (Coach)

Necklace is by Forever 21, purchased – you guessed it, ON SALE for $10 (regular price $15).  I loved this piece because it looks thick and chunky, but its rather light around my neck.  The eyes of the lion head are my favorite color, royal blue, so I kind of had to buy it.  While this exact necklace is no longer available on the site I found very similar alternatives:

Option #3

Last but not least, the shades.  What’s a hot ensemble without the perfect pair of sunglasses?  These mirrored aviator shades were also purchased from Forever 21 for under $10.  You guessed it, they’re sold out, so I found you some nice alternatives below:

That’s it folks!  Hope you found some inspiration to create a similar look for yourself :).
